If you live outside of Tennessee you can still buy a firearm from us. But why would you want to buy a firearm from us? We may have a better price than your local dealer. No sales tax, which can be a pretty large amount especially for a multiple firearms purchase. Availability of your chosen firearm. But there is a BATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms) requirement for selling firearms to out of state buyers. Your firearm must be shipped to your local dealer with a valid Federal Firearms License (FFL). Most local dealers will charge a "Transfer" fee for each firearm they receive for you. It is usually from $15 to $30, but varies by dealer. Your local dealer will also have to run your "NICS" background check which will cost an additional $10. Of course you have to pay the $10 NICS fee no matter what dealer you buy from. The NICS check will be done once they receive the firearm and you come in to pick it up. You will have to pay the NICS fee whether you are approved or denied. Now here is the tricky part. If the NICS check brings back
"Declined", then your dealer cannot legally transfer the firearm
to you. So basically you have now paid for a firearm that you cannot legally own. So what do you do? Sometimes the selling dealer will give you a refund minus shipping and usually charge a small re-stocking fee. And sometimes your dealer can sell the firearm and get your money back. Also keep in mind the new "Don't lie for the other guy" campaign. This is know as a "Straw Purchase", where your friend goes to the dealer and buys the firearm for you, and this is ILLEGAL. If the dealer suspects that this is what you are doing he cannot legally sell the firearm to your friend. So be very careful with this because it comes with a stiff 10 year prison term. If you decide to buy a firearm from Skip's Firearms we will need your dealer to fax us an ink signed copy of their FFL. They should also send a cover letter with your information so we know whose order they are transferring. Dealers already know the requirements for this. They need to fax their FFL to 423-238-4805. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to EMAIL us and we can answer your questions.
